Ingredients of Semolina Upma

  1. It's 1 cup of semolina or suji.
  2. It's 4 cups of boiled water.
  3. Prepare 2 of onions finely chopped.
  4. It's 2-3 of green chillies chopped.
  5. You need 1 inch of Grated Ginger.
  6. It's 2 tbsp of green peas.
  7. It's 5-6 of Curry leaves.
  8. It's leaves of As required Chopped coriander.
  9. You need 1 tsp of mustard seeds.
  10. You need 1 tsp of urad dal.
  11. It's 1 tbsp of oil.
  12. You need of As per taste salt.
  13. It's 1 tsp of ghee.
  14. You need 1 tsp of lemon juice.
  15. It's of As required Barik sev for garnishing.

Upma is a traditional South Indian breakfast dish made by simmering roasted rava in tempered & spiced boiling water. Rava is the South Indian word for 'semolina' so it is also known as rava upma. Return pan to medium heat and heat ghee or oil until shimmering. Rava / Sooji (Semolina) Upma Recipe is one of the favorite breakfast item in south India.

Semolina Upma step by step

  1. Firstly dry roast semolina on low flame till it's slightly pinkish in colour and becomes aromatic..
  2. Now, boil 4 cups of water..
  3. Meanwhile, heat oil in a kadhai and add Mustard seeds, let it splutter, now add urad dal, then add, Curry leaves, Chopped green chillies, grated ginger and chopped onions. Saute well..
  4. Now add green peas. Cover and cook till peas are soft and tender. Now add roasted semolina and salt. Mix well..
  5. Now to this add boiling water and keep stirring to avoid formation of any lumps. Mix well cover and cook for another 2 mins..
  6. Now, finally add chopped coriander leaves, ghee and lemon juice. Switch off the flame.
  7. Serve hot and tasty upma by garnishing it with barik sev with ginger tea.
