Beef and Peas. Toss the beef and set aside. Heat the oil in a heavy skillet (iron is best) over high heat. For such a simple dish, beef and peas really gets you going.

- Prepare 300 grams of flank, sliced thinly (you can also use other meat, like the ones they use in sukiyaki.).

Pour half the liquid over the sliced meat in a bowl and toss with hands. Reserve the other half of the liquid. Brown beef and onion,drain. meanwhile cook macaroni,drain. Mix beef and onion,macaroni,soups,peas,salt,pepper and red pepper.

- Mix sliced beef with onion salt, sesame oil, apple/grape juice. Store in the fridge for at least an hour. (or all night).
- Remove sliced beef from the fridge. Add egg and maizena. Stir well..
- Heat the oil in a pan (medium heat). Pour all of the mixture into it. Stir occasionally and try to remove the slices from each other..
- Flip the beef occasionally until both sides are golden brown..
- Add frozen peas..
- Combine shoyu, water, and sugar. Stir until well-combined. Add to the pan and lower the heat..
- Simmer for about 10 minutes..
- We enjoy this with steamed rice, but I'm sure with pasta it would taste great as well..
Place in a large baking dish. Cut beef into thin slices and then marinating with marinating ingredients and cornstarch, except sesame oil. Mix in sesame oil just before frying. If the kettle is any smaller, you may need to cook the meat in. Ground beef with peas and onions may not exactly be a "depression" dish, but perhaps a bit reminiscent of the peas and pasta dish that blanketed many Italian Americans during the true depression era and even my grandmother's table.
